Nine large Texas-based firms are on this year’s AmLaw 200 list, a companion to the AmLaw 100, which ranks the nation’s highest-grossing firms in 2006. Both lists are compiled by The American Lawyer, an affiliate of Texas Lawyer. The AmLaw 100 is a list of the nation’s highest-grossing firms in 2006, while the AmLaw 200 is a list of the next 100 highest-grossing firms. The Texas firms on the AmLaw 200 this year, in order, are Andrews Kurth of Houston; Locke Liddell & Sapp, based in Houston and Dallas; Dallas-based Thompson & Knight; Bracewell & Giuliani of Houston; and four Dallas-based firms including Jenkens & Gilchrist, Gardere Wynne Sewell, Winstead and Jackson Walker. All nine firms are making repeat appearances on the AmLaw 200 except Andrews Kurth, which made the AmLaw 100 last year and narrowly slipped to the AmLaw 200 this year. It likely won’t be the same firms on the AmLaw 200 next year. Jenkens & Gilchrist closed its doors on March 31, and Locke Liddell announced in May it would merge this year with Chicago-based Lord, Bissell & Brook, creating a 700-lawyer firm.
