Ray Tittmann and Jodi Swick (pictured), former partners in Carroll, Burdick & McDonough in San Francisco, have joined Edison McDowell as partners to launch the California office.
Thomas Hetherington, a founder of Edison McDowell, says California makes sense because the firm’s lawyers do quite a bit of litigation there.
“Adding a physical presence there will help us serve our clients,” he says.
Despite its Texas location, he says the 33-lawyer Edison McDowell has a national practice and has handled litigation in almost every state since the firm was founded in 2009.
Tittmann, who does commercial and class action litigation, and Swick, who does class action, business and insurance coverage litigation, say they are excited to work at a firm with a national reach.
“I like the model of serving the entire nation with the low overhead of Texas,” Tittmann says, noting that he also likes the firm’s entrepreneurial spirit.
“They have a solid reputation for being outstanding Texas trial lawyers with a nationwide practice,” says Swick, a Dallas native.
Hetherington says lawyers from his firm met Tittmann and Swick through work for a mutual client that he declines to identify. Tittmann also declines to identify clients that he and Swick currently represent, but he says they are generally in the insurance industry.
Matthew Kemner, the San Francisco-based chairman of Carroll, Burdick, did not immediately return a telephone message seeking comment.
