Judge Peter Sakai (pictured), presiding judge of the 225th District Court in Bexar County, is the recipient of the Light for the Families Award presented by the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, Texas Affiliate.
Sakai says he received the award during the association’s state conference, held March 8 in New Braunfels.
“I was very honored to get this recognition from this particular group,” Sakai says. He says the association is made up of professionals committed to working with families.
Sakai, a 1979 graduate of the University of Texas School of Law, says he first won election to the 225th District Court in 2006 and is serving his second term on the court. He says he previously served 11 years as an associate judge for the Bexar County children’s court.
Among other things, Sakai was involved in the implementation of the Bexar County family treatment court over which he says he presides. He says that in 2003, he was involved in planning and building the children’s court in the Bexar County Courthouse.
