Baker Botts today announced an alliance with the International Legal Group (ILG) of Kuwait, a relationship that expands the Houston-based Baker Botts’ ability to serve clients in Kuwait and to do work for Kuwaiti companies elsewhere.
The firm has offices in Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates and Riyadh in Saudi Arabia.
According to a press release, “Through the alliance, Baker Botts and ILG will provide expanded resources to their combined client base, including access to local and international legal experience across a range of subjects, disciplines and jurisdictions.”
Andrew Baker, managing partner of Baker Botts, was in Kuwait today and not available for comment due to the time difference. But in a statement, he wrote that the firm is “excited about the prospects” of the alliance and the fit between the culture and practices of the firms.
In a written statement, Dr. Rashid Alanezi, the chairman of ILG, wrote, “We believe our alliance with Baker Botts will enable us to offer our Kuwaiti client base a breadth of experience that is superior to that otherwise available in the Kuwaiti legal market.”
Baker Botts senior partner James A. Baker III, who was the U.S. secretary of state when the United States helped liberate Kuwait during the first Persian Gulf War, helped announced the alliance at an event in Kuwait City.
