Shannon, Gracey, Ratliff & Miller announced Jan. 7 that Arlington partners Melissa B. Kates and Paul J. Johnson are serving on the recently formed Commercial Real Estate Advisory Council for the Arlington Chamber of Commerce.
The firm also announced that Kates (pictured) has been elected to the board of the Tarrant County Bar Association’s Construction Law Section. Kates says she is serving as secretary of the board.
Johnson, whose practice focuses on real estate, acquisitions and deal work, says the Arlington Chamber of Commerce has been very active but that one of its “glaring needs” has been for more information on real estate issues. The advisory council will focus on commercial and industrial real estate but also will look at residential real estate issues, he says.
“There’s no way to be successful with real estate without taking a holistic approach to things,” says Johnson (pictured).
He is chairman of Shannon Gracey’s business section and is board certified in commercial and residential real estate by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
Kates, who represents plaintiffs and defendants in civil litigation with a concentration on business, real estate and construction disputes, says her focus on the advisory council probably will be on public policy.
