K&L Gates announced Jan. 14 that it has elected 47 of its attorneys to the partnership, including two in Texas. Effective March 1, Barrett Howell and Ryan Preston will become partners in the firm’s Dallas office.
Howell says he received his J.D. in 2001 from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law. While in law school, Howell says, he was a research assistant for Marc Steinberg, associate dean for research.
After graduating, he worked at Haynes and Boone in Dallas from 2001 to 2008 and then joined Winstead, Howell says. He says he joined K&L Gates in July 2010 and focuses his practice on white collar crime and government investigations.
Howell says his activities outside the firm include serving on the board of directors of PeopleFund, a nonprofit that serves as a lender to nonconventional borrowers.
Preston says he received his J.D. from Washington and Lee University in 2003 and joined Gardere Wynne Sewell as associate after he graduated. He says that in 2006 he joined Hughes & Luce, the predecessor to K&L Gates.
Preston says he handles corporate and technology transactional work as well as outsourcing matters.
