Dallas-based Hermes Sargent Bates has elected three of its attorneys as partners and has added three associates.
Partner Lauren Farkas (pictured), who says she joined Hermes in 2009, practices labor and employment law. She says she represents employers in federal and state cases, administrative hearings and arbitration proceedings.
Farkas says she is a 2004 graduate of Brooklyn Law School, where she was the articles editor of the Journal of Law and Policy.
She says she began her legal career in 2005 at Winget Spadafora & Schwartzberg in New York City.
Ken Riney (pictured), another new partner, says he began his legal career at the former firm of Gwinn & Roby in Dallas and joined Hermes in July 2007. Riney says he is a 2004 graduate of South Texas College of Law, where he was vice chairman of the Board of Advocates and participated in the varsity moot program.
Riney says his practice focuses on premises, products and professional liability. He says his professional liability practice includes representing livestock professionals, including horse trainers and stable operators.
Riney also says he serves on the Texas Association of Defense Counsel board of directors.
The third new partner is Deke D. Owen (pictured), who handles construction, professional liability and commercial
litigation, according to the Hermes website.
The new associates at Hermes are Virginia Simms, Jacob Borchers and Derek Feibel.
Simms (pictured) says she received her J.D. in 2011 from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law, where she was editor-in-chief of The International Lawyer. She says she practices employment law.
Borchers (pictured), a 2009 graduate of Baylor Law School,
says he was an associate at Miller & Brown in Dallas before joining Hermes. In his practice, Borchers handles healthcare, medical malpractice and commercial litigation. He says he represents national skilled nursing providers.
Feibel (pictured), a 2011 graduate of Texas Tech University School of Law, says he practiced at The Silvera Firm in Dallas before joining Hermes. He says his practice focuses on workers’ compensation.
