DLA Piper today announced that John Gilluly (pictured) has been named managing partner of the firm’s Austin office. Gilluly, who heads the firm’s corporate and securities practice in Texas and is a member of the firm’s U.S. policy committee, succeeds corporate and securities partner Jim Montgomery (pictured below).
Leading the 29-lawyer Austin office of takes “a fair amount of time,” Montgomery says. “It’s time to let John handle this for a while.” Montgomery says he’s been managing partner of the office since 2001 or 2002 when it was an office of Gray Cary Ware & Freidenrich. He notes that the 2005 three-way merger of then Baltimore-based Piper Rudnick, London-based DLA and San Diego-based Gray Cary, resulted in the Austin office of DLA Piper.
The firm has more than 4,000 lawyers, according to its website. Gilluly has been Austin’s managing partner since Jan. 1, Montgomery says. Gilluly did not immediately return a telephone call requesting comment.
