A hot Friday afternoon provided the perfect setting for Houston Baker Botts lawyers to brave a dunk tank and raise thousands of dollars for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s “Light the Night Walk.”
Eight attorneys, including managing partner Andy Baker (pictured pre-dunk, above), sat in a dunking booth as colleagues from the firm who donated money to the charity threw baseballs to make sure the lawyers splashed down.
Most of the lawyers donned shorts and T-shirts for their stint on the dunking tank, but Baker (pictured post-dunk, left) and tax partner Stephen Dyer wore business suits complete with silk tie. (Both took off their shoes before climbing onto the seat suspended over a tank of water.)
Dyer (pictured post-dunk, below) says it seemed appropriate to wear full business attire.
“Did you ever see a Baker Botts lawyer not in a suit?” he asked before changing into dry clothes.
In addition to Baker and Dyer, others who got into the dunk tank were partners Herschel Hamner, Josh Davidson, Paul Landen and Kelly Rose and associates Andrew Thomison and Coleson Bruce.
Janet Diaz, administrator of the Houston office, says the Houston office pledged to raise $25,000 for the charity, and the firm pledged a total of $100,000. The dunking tank raised at least $6,000, according to the firm.
Other events during the week included a rock-paper-scissors competition and snack sales, and lawyers and staff were asked to donate spare change to the charity during the week, the firm announced in a press release.
