Ronald E. Hood has joined Hays, McConn, Rice & Pickering in Houston as of counsel concentrating on construction law and insurance litigation.
Hood says he began his practice in insurance defense soon after finishing law school. “I went to work on the 1st Court of Appeals for two years,” he says. “Then I went to Lorance & Thompson, an insurance defense firm, and was there for a very long time. That’s how I got started: right out of law school.”
Hood says he also practices construction law. “I first moved into the area about 16 years ago,” he says. “It was initially through insurance defense, and then it grew.”
Now, Hood says much of the work he does in the construction area is construction-defect work, which he obtains through insurance clients and via direct hire from contractors.
Hood says moving to Hays McConn was “a good opportunity and a good fit for me and the firm.” He also says he was drawn to the firm because he had cases with two Hays McConn partners.
“I had several cases with David Wilson and John Cahill,” Hood says. “They were always superior in depositions and cases; naturally, they were the first ones I talked to about moving.”
“And after we discussed it, it was decided it would be a good fit,” Hood says.
