The State Bar of Texas is warning lawyers to beware of a new scam.
A Texas lawyer who has not practiced for a number of years recently learned that scammers had set up a fake website that purports to be her firm. In a blog post, the Bar reports that the fake site uses the lawyer’s maiden name and former office address and some of her biographical information.
The lawyer learned of the site when a lawyer at an out-of-state firm contacted her. Because the FBI and other law enforcement agencies are investigating, the lawyer declines comment.
This isn’t the first time Texas firms have been targeted, as Texas Lawyer reported here and here.
