David V. Wilson II (pictured), shareholder in Hays, McConn, Rice & Pickering in Houston, has joined the South Texas College of Law Alumni Association board of directors for 2012-2013. Wilson earned his law degree from the South Texas College of Law in 1993.
Wilson says he officially will assume the position on Sept. 7 at the alumni association annual luncheon in Houston. The board is responsible for helping to raise awareness of the school’s annual fund, encouraging alumni to raise money for the annual fund and sponsoring events throughout the year to encourage alumni networking, among other things, he says.
Wilson has been active with the alumni association through coaching the moot court program and volunteering to help with activities in the advocacy program, he says.
“I am fortunate that moot court coaching has exposed me to graduates going back to fellow coaches who graduated in the 80s and former students who graduated in the late 90s and early 2000s,” he says. “I’m really excited to work with several of them [on the board of directors].”
“I almost never say no to the law school, because when I was born, my dad was a student there. He was the class of ’69,” Wilson says.
Wilson has other family members who attended the law school as well.
“I’ve always had a deep sense of loyalty to the school,” he says. “It’s not just holding the degree but the family ties.”
