Nashville firm Waller Lansden Dortch & Davis plans to move into the Texas market by opening an office in Austin next Monday that will focus on the health-care practice. The firm announced in a press release that Elizabeth Rogers, a partner in Vinson & Elkins in Austin, will head the office.
“We’re really impressed by Elizabeth Rogers. Our firm has a pretty focused interest in the health-care space,” says John Tishler, chairman of Waller.
The firm’s clients include HCA Inc. of Nashville and LifePoint Hospitals Inc. of Brentwood, Tenn., Tishler says.
Also, on July 2, Andrew “Drew” C. Rogers will join Waller as an associate in Austin, and Anthony E. “Tony” Pletcher will join as chief strategy officer.
Tishler says Pletcher, currently managing partner of the Corpus Christi office of Watts Guerra Craft, will not join Waller for several months, because he has a number of suits to finish up at Watts Guerra.
Elizabeth Rogers, Pletcher and Drew Rogers each did not immediately return a telephone message seeking comment.
Waller, which also has an office in Birmingham, Ala., has close to 200 lawyers.
Don Wood, a co-managing partner of V&E’s Austin office, declines comment.

TX AG Greg Abbott is under a great deal of pressure to handle the extensive dental Medicaid fraud problem in Texas. Waller Lansden has represented Dr Richard Malouf (All Smiles Dental) & Church Street Health Management (d/b/a Small Smiles Dental, etc.) in the past. These parties have allegedly been involved, in massive volumes of dental Medicaid fraud.
One reason for Waller Lansden's expansion into Texas, may be for civil & criminal defense of alleged white-collar crime, centered around corporate Medicaid fraud.
