Bowman and Brooke to open Austin office staffed largely by Clark, Thomas & Winters group

Minneapolis litigation firm Bowman and Brooke, which opened an office in Dallas on Feb. 1, plans to open an Austin office staffed largely by a group from Austin’s Clark, Thomas & Winters. The Clark, Thomas lawyers joining Bowman and Brooke as shareholders in Austin on Feb. 15 include Randall Christian (pictured), Mary Pawelek, David Lill, Cedric Evans, Kelly Kimbrough, Mark Farris, Susan Burnett and David Duke. Additionally, Clark, Thomas’ Patrick DeLaune will join as a senior associate in Austin and Dimple Shah will come on as a senior associate in Dallas, says David Graves Jr., Bowman and Brooke’s Minneapolis-based chairman. Products liability lawyer Gary Davis, of Rodriguez Davis Ghoryeb Gersch & Towns in Austin, also will join Bowman and Brooke’s new Austin outpost, Graves says. Davis did not immediately return a telephone call. Christian says Bowman and Brooke is a good fit for his group’s pharmaceutical practice. “We’ve been wanting to join a firm that would give us a national platform, and one well-known in the products liability field,” he says. Christian says the group will leave Clark, Thomas on Feb. 14, and join Bowman and Brooke on Feb. 15. He expects more associates from Clark, Thomas to make the move as well. Christian declines to identify clients. Graves says his firm couldn’t pass up the opportunity to bring on the Clark, Thomas group because there’s such synergy with his firm’s medical device and pharmaceutical practice. “In an ideal world, I’m sure we wouldn’t be opening two new offices in two weeks, but it’s an opportunity that’s significant for us,” Graves says. Meade Bauer, president of Clark, Thomas, says his firm will evaluate its options in the wake of the departures. He declines to discuss the options, but says the firm will have between 60 and 70 lawyers after the group joins Bowman and Brooke. On Feb. 1, Bowman and Brooke opened its Dallas office with a group that moved over from Dallas’ Hartline, Dacus, Barger, Dreyer & Kern. The Austin office is the ninth for Bowman and Brooke, which has approximately 150 lawyers.
