Jennifer Vogel (pictured), Continental Airline Inc.’s general counsel since 2001, will not move to the company’s new headquarters in Chicago once the Houston-based airline merges with Chicago-based United Airlines. In a written statement today, Vogel says she is not able to move to Chicago due to personal commitments in Houston. “I feel incredibly honored to have been a part of Continental’s remarkable turnaround and success over the last 15 years and will treasure the enduring friendships I have made as I move to the next chapter of my life,” wrote Vogel, Continental’s senior vice president, general counsel, secretary and chief compliance officer. On July 27, Continental and United announced the selection of a new senior leadership team for the combined airline, which calls for the current general counsel at United, Thomas Sabatino Jr., to become the general counsel of the combined company. Vogel could not be reached for immediate comment today, but Continental spokeswoman Julie King says a decision about how long Vogel will remain with the company “hasn’t been finalized.” Sabatino is currently senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary of UAL Corp. and United Airlines, its principal subsidiary. On May 3, the two airlines announced a definitive merger agreement that is expected to close during the fourth quarter of the year. The airline will be called United Airlines and be based in Chicago. Vogel, who joined Continental in 1995, is married with two daughters.
