St. Mary’s University School of Law in San Antonio is launching a summer program in China in 2010, says Robert H. Hu (pictured), director of St. Mary’s law library, associate law professor and co-director of the program. The four-week program will offer five courses taught by St. Mary’s law professors and Chinese law professors at the Law School of Beihang University in Beijing, he says. Two leading law firms in Beijing -- King & Wood and Jun He Law Offices -- have also made informal commitments to provide part-time 2010 summer associate positions for a few St. Mary law students participating in the study program, Hu says. He notes the school has applied for and expects to receive American Bar Association accreditation for the program’s courses. The China summer program is not restricted to St. Mary’s students, but is open to all law students, says Vincent R. Johnson, law professor and co-director of the program. “We think that a complete legal education today at least begins the acquaintance of law students with international and comparative law, and there is probably no better place to do that then with reference to clients doing business in China,” Johnson says
