In a per curiam opinion issued May 18, a Special Court of Review affirmed the State Commission on Judicial Conduct’s public warning of 116th District Court Judge Bruce Priddy (pictured) of Dallas. The judicial conduct commission publicly warned Priddy in January for failing to timely file statutorily required campaign finance reports and personal finance statements that were due in 2006, 2007 and 2008 and for failing to respond to the commission’s inquiry about those late-filings. Priddy requested the Texas Supreme Court to appoint the special court of review to consider his appeal. The special court – made up of 1st Court of Appeals Justice Jane Bland, 7th Court of Appeals Justice Mackey Hancock and 13th Court of Appeals Linda Yanez – wrote in its opinion: “This is not a case of a simple mistake, corrected with a late filed report, or of a good faith effort to test the legitimacy of the campaign finance laws. It is, instead, a willful and consistent failure to comply with the obligations of the law and of the office that Judge Priddy had assumed. Judge Priddy compounded this failure when he refused to cooperate with the Commission in its investigation.” Priddy did not return a telephone call seeking comment.
