Law students slated to start first-year positions this fall at Fulbright & Jaworski just learned they will start work on Jan. 11, 2010, the firm confirmed today in a written statement. Fulbright will pay bar examination expenses and moving expenses for the new associates, and it is offering them a salary advance. Pam Easton, a firm spokeswoman, says 51 first-year lawyers are in the 2009 class. Fulbright, based in Houston, is the second BigTex firm to announce a start-date deferral this week. On March 31, Dallas-based Locke Lord Bissell & Liddell informed its 31 incoming first-year lawyers that their September start has been delayed until January. Locke Lord also laid off associates, counsel and staff for economic reasons.
