Becky Gregory, the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Texas, will not be in Beaumont much longer. Gregory told her staff that by the end of April, she will leave to start in Austin as senior counsel to Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott, according to Davilyn Walston, a spokewoman for Gregory's office. Gregory will also have a title as an associate deputy attorney general for the criminal division. Texas Lawyer previously reported here and here that Richard Roper left the U.S. attorney position in the Northern District of Texas on Jan. 5 to become a partner in the Dallas office of Thompson & Knight and Don DeGabrielle left his job as U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Texas on Nov. 8, 2008, to become a partner in the Houston office of Fulbright & Jaworski. Johnny Sutton, the U.S. attorney for the Western District of Texas, did not immediately return a telephone call seeking comment, but he has said previously that he expects things to change with the new administration.
