It's official. Ron Kirk, a partner in the Dallas office of Vinson & Elkins, is scheduled to appear before the Senate Finance Committee on March 5 as President Barack Obama's nominee for U.S. trade representative. The hearing is scheduled for 3 p.m. So far the only witness scheduled is Kirk, a former Dallas mayor and an unsucessful Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate in 2002. Assuming he has paid his taxes, we are willing to step out on a limb here and predict that his nomination will be sent to the full Senate for a confirmation vote shortly after the hearing.
