There’s a new book out about John Hill’s two terms as the state’s attorney general. Texas A&M University Press published “John Hill for the State of Texas,” written by Ernie Stromberger, who collaborated with Hill in writing the book. Hill, who died in July 2007, served as attorney general from January 1973 until January 1979. Stromberger, who had worked for Hill during his 1978 gubernatorial campaign, says he would write a chapter and submit it to Hill for review. “We finished the manuscript in January 2007,” Stromberger says. While the first chapter deals with Hill’s early life and professional career, the other chapters address issues that Hill dealt with while attorney general, Stromberger says. Those include the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act, which he pushed the state Legislature to pass, and Hill’s efforts to clean up the Houston ship channel.
