Law school proposal comes on first day for filing bills

EddieArmsCrossed  State Rep. Eddie Lucio III (pictured), D-Brownsville, is trying again to win the Texas Legislature’s approval for a law school in South Texas. On Nov. 10, the first day for filing legislation that the Legislature will consider in 2009, Lucio filed H.B. 66, which would establish a law school at the University of Texas at Brownsville. Lucio, a partner in Rodriguez & Nicolas, filed H.B. 1099 in 2007 to create a law school at UT-Brownsville, but the bill did not make it out of the House Higher Education Committee. It looks like Lucio wants to get an earlier start with the law school bill this time. But, with money tight for the 2010-2011 budget cycle, Lucio still may find it difficult to convince his legislative colleagues to approve the measure.
