Texas Supreme Court candidates in focus

Overshadowed by presidential politics, the Democratic and Republican candidates for the three seats on the Texas Supreme Court up for election this year will have their chance to be in the spotlight beginning a 7 p.m. Oct. 7.  The League of Women Voters of the Houston Area Education Fund, the Houston Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates and the Houston Trial Lawyers Association are sponsoring a candidates’ forum in the Joe Green Auditorium at South Texas College of Law. Donald Kidd, HTLA president and forum committee chairman, says the purpose of the forum is to educate people about the candidates seeking seats on the state’s highest civil court. “It’s something everybody needs to know about and nobody knows about it,” says Kidd, a partner in Perdue & Kidd in Houston. Ernie Manouse, Houston PBS anchor and producer, will serve as moderator for the forum. Kidd says members of the audience will not be able to ask questions during the forum. Manouse will ask each candidate questions that have been vetted by the STCL faculty, Kidd says.
