A death (of sorts) in Justice Nathan Hecht’s family
A friend of Tex Parte who works deep inside the Texas Supreme Court passes on this sad news from Justice Nathan Hecht: His beloved Rocinante has died. Rocinante, the name of Don Quixote’s majestic steed, is the moniker Hecht bestowed on his 1984 Chevrolet Caprice Classic (pictured with Hecht at the helm). According to a recent e-mail he sent to the court staff, Rocinante developed transmission problems on Hecht’s way home from the airport on Aug. 9, forcing him to stop several times. “But his great heart carried him on, finally giving out in my driveway,” Hecht wrote. “In all, he had gone 234,654.7 miles, almost the average distance to the moon. He was towed to AJB Carburetor, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The carcass went for $100, though his memory, as they say, is priceless. His spirit, of course, lives on in the hearts and lives of the many he carried throughout his long and full life. I have secured a new steed, an Avalanche truck, which I have decided to name Rocinante II. Rocinante is dead. Long live Rocinante!”

A Chevy Avalanche? I'm sending the Judge a case of Mountain Dew and an English-to-Gnarly lexicon to go with it.
RIP Rocinante.
