In Hays County, officials are looking at all different ways to save money because of ridiculous fuel costs. One of those ways is cutting the work week down to four days, a possibility discussed earlier this month amongst members of the Hays County commissioner’s court. The idea is still in the discussion stage, but the question remains: How would the county’s judicial system adjust to the shortened week? “I think it would be a challenge to figure out how to run a court system that way, with jury trials,” says Sherri Tibbe, Hays County’s district attorney. “I’m all for conserving energy,” she says. “The initial thought is to save commuting costs for employees and how to save the county money. Government agencies all over the country are really feeling the pinch from higher fuel costs.’’ And if the commissioners want to go to the short week, Tibbe and her 40 employees will figure out a way to make it work, she says. “We’ll support whatever the commissioner’s court wants.”
